For us novices please explain why this is good. Pre-lay shed or something like that?

Depending on what's going on, it could be. Wink It's likely either a pre-ovulation shed or a post-ovulation shed. If it's post-ovulation then Devin can expect eggs in about 30 days. If it's pre-ovy, then he can look forward to a huge ovulating MJ in a couple of weeks.

I can't help wishing snakes were more like geckos in their breeding habits. It's so much easier with geckos, I think. They mate right away regardless of the female's receptiveness/readiness, and you can get eggs in a month...every month!

Predictability would make it such a boring ordeal. Razz I like the anticipation... Did it take?, Is she building?, Do I feel follicles?, How many was that?, Is she glowing?, Is this her ovulation?, Is she going to shed?, et al. It's all a gamble because nothing is guaranteed and it makes it all the more exciting when things pan out the way you want them to. Wink

Haha, not all kinds of geckos, Dagan. With Leo's, if the female isn't having it, it's not going to happen! I've seen it, and ask Eric! Apparently he has a real meanie right now. Lol!

Although, Singe did give in the next time that we put Scorch with her, and she laid this week, so it's all good. I can relate to the anticipation of waiting for the to lay, though! It took Singe 3 weeks to lay. I was getting anxious! Lol!

I'm totally calling BS on this one, lol. People cut eggs early because they can't stand it being unpredictable. Also ball python genetics in terms of appearances are much easier than crested genetics, which no one has figured out yet. So there's the same level of unpredictability in each type of animal. : P

But Dagan, you're talking about most people here. You forget that Sandy and I generally don't cut eggs! Wink LOL

I have cut eggs in the past but I prefer not to cut at all unless I think something may be wrong. In fact, I'm one of the anti-cutters on most of the BP forums I post on. lol I just think it causes more problems than it could prevent. Razz

Yep, me too. I have cut one egg out of all the eggs I've had since 2007, and the only reason I did that was because the egg was on top of the pile and had dried out somewhat. Candling didn't reveal any movement, so I wanted to check and see if the baby was OK (which she was, thankfully).

Best of luck Devin! And yeah, why don't you think so?
