Doh!

Unexpected Clutch Img5508x

I just found my amel het anery corn, Valentine, with this little pile of marshmallows. Definitely was not expecting any corn snake clutches this year. There are only 8, thankfully. I'm already going to have my hands full with feeding a bunch of baby balls this summer. I don't have an incubator running and don't have any vermiculite or perlite lying around so I've just put them in a Gladware tub and nestled them down into a few handfuls of cypress mulch. They're now sitting on top of my fridge. We'll see if they hatch in around 60-65 days up there.

Whoot, special marshmallow surprise. I hope they make it since the butter clutch didn't last year.

I wish my butter motley female decided to surprise me with some eggs instead. Razz These will just be amels and snows if they go on to hatch. I was really hoping for butter motley babies last year but I think a heat wave killed them about midway through incubation. That really sucked. Crying

Well, surprise! My butter motley was holding out on me! I *thought* she might be but up until the last feed she had eaten regularly and didn't give me any reason to believe she was gravid! Smile

There were 9 good eggs and 3 slugs in this clutch.

The amel x snow clutch started pipping.

A few went bad during incubation, but the rest still look okay and I've counted four eggs with slits so far.

Not sure what happened with this clutch. I only got two live babies in the bunch. It's like some of the other eggs pipped and then died immediately after. Go figure. o_0

Here are some pics of my survivors. Both snows. Not sure if male or female yet. I'll wait until after they shed to sex them.

Well, I figured I'd check in on my butter motley clutch and was thrilled to see one of the eggs had pipped. That was a bit short-lived, however, when I noticed the baby had emerged before fully absorbing its yolk. You can plainly see its umbilicus is still firmly attached to the yolk still inside the egg. What the crap!? Doh! This baby is acting very lethargic but is alive. We'll see what happens overnight, I suppose.
