| I know it's early, but do you guys have breeding projects lined up for next season? I'm hoping things will go well and my het pied female will be ready to breed by then. | |

| I'm really hoping to get some stuff going with my cresteds. But well they may not be ready by next season. I've only got the one male, so it depends on what I get as a female and how old she is...so on and so forth. Not to mention I have a lot on research to do, and school soon. we will see how it goes | |

| I've had a couple of locks with my male spider ball and one of my normal females so far. Hoping for spider babies this season! Hoping my orange ghost will make weight this season as well, but it's not looking extremely likely. If she does, I'll pair her with the spider as well. Also hoping that my female het albino makes weight. If so, she'll be paired with another het albino. That's about it for this season for me. | |

| LOL Absolutely! The girls that are so close this year but not quite up to size should definitely be ready to go next season. And hopefully this spring/summer, I'll finally get my male butter. By that time, the female lesser is going to be getting some size on her. If she makes weight by next season (and as healthily as she's eating and growing, she may just be), and my male butter arrives and gets big enough, I could be on the way to some BELs! That's the project I really can't wait for! (Well, that and the honeybees. hehe) Make me a list, and I'll see what I can do. Just save me a male pied! | |

I know I want a lesser or a butter pair from you when you're producing some. I'd like to make some pastel butter pieds in the future. Devin, I'd love to borrow your pastel!

| Even though she's not quite as heavy as I'd like her to be at the moment, I decided to go ahead and see if Henna would be receptive as well and..... It's hard to see, but they were definitely locked and yes, that's Devin's Cybin. I wouldn't have gone ahead and paired them if I didn't feel certain that Devin's animals are bug-free and healthy. I know that's no guarantee that something could be missed and this is a definite instance of do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do. I just didn't want to miss a window of oppurtunity with storm fronts rolling in and both snakes had already digested their meals. I expect Henna to start downing more rats and putting on more weight if she's this receptive to breeding. Since this is her first time, I don't know if I'll have a clutch of het albinos and pastel hets but I'm optimistic. | |

| LOL You could have the whole clutch minus the pastel of my choosing if ya want. I'll even incubate the clutch. But absolutely--definitely let him lock with Sandy's albino as much as possible. Pastel het albinos would be worth more than normals and pastels. | |

| This ad: http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=32&de=735769 on kingsnake lists a female pastel het albino at $500. That's the only ad I came across right off, so I don't know what the males would be worth. It's getting a bit strange to me on pricing some stuff. It used to be that the females were worth more than males, but here lately I've been seeing many males priced higher than the females, which in some ways makes sense, as you can breed one male to many females, which would (to me) make them worth more. But then, you gotta have the females to lay the eggs, so . . . ? | |

| I think it's always been that male doms and co-doms were more valuable than females because they could be put to use so much earlier and produce morph offspring with normal females, but the market on snakes just seems topsy-turvy lately. Some people are listing their morphs for little to nothing just to get rid of them and others are still marking them at their sales prices from last year and before so there's a huge gap between. I think the python ban had a lot to do with that in the beginning because some prepared for the worst and were cutting their losses and others were trying to compete with the lowered prices. Who knows, though. | |

| Yeah, I know what you mean. There's many that are in the boat of trying to get rid of offspring they've produced.
With my spider male, though, the females were listing much higher than the males (males were around $300-400 when I bought mine) but females were still going for around $600-800. Which is partly why I decided on gettiing a male (other reasons were that I had plenty of females to breed him to, and since he was dom, I could breed him to multiple females if I wanted to). Of course, that was back in '08. But the recessives have always seemed to hold their value better than any other . . . I think ghosts are still in the neighborhood of $500 each--don't quote me on that though, since i haven't checked prices recently. Honeybees (spider ghosts) were around $2,000 last time I checked. At any rate, I can understand why they hold their value--takes much longer to produce visuals. But still, like you said, some people have just knocked the bottom out on pricing while others are still holding, so it really does make for some interesting prices out there. What I'd sorta planned to do was see what some of the big breeders are selling theirs for, and then price mine a tad under that. But that too is somewhat dependent on what all is produced and what some of the other "no-names" like myself are selling theirs at too. It's just so hard to guess right now! LOL

LOL Yeah, recessives are more complicated to reproduce compared to the doms and co-doms. Another factor is your customer base. If you don't have any interested buyers, you could wind up chipping away at your asking price until you're practically giving it away.

| Yep, that's very true. It helps to be certified to ship so that your potential customer base is nationwide, but even still, if what you're breeding isn't what's "hot" at the moment, you could still wind up stuck with some, or selling them at way below the typical asking price. | |

He's was locked up again with Henna two nights ago. I introduced him to Ailynn and hoped that he'd show some interest in her but I think he only has eyes for Henna. If anything happened between him and Ailynn I missed it.

| I spoke too soon. It was some awkward tail twisting, but they didn't seem to mind it. I had no idea there was a ball python edition of the Kama Sutra. Cybin still has some rough spots on his back, but I'm certain that they'll disappear with his next shed. Ailynn is getting plump! Can you see the stretched scales in that pic? I'm hoping that Cybin seals the deal with her rather than Mitch. I love my normal guy, but I'd absolutely love to have some pastels peeking out of eggs this year. Thanks again, Devin! | |

| Its not snakes, but its breeding project related. I was expecting to have 10 clutches by March first... but with two females still waiting to lay, another female that hasnt came to size like i planned, one female not taking a male at all, and only having one female lay... I have 2 clutches so far. Lameness. | |

| I'm 100% certain that Dewshine ovulated last week and I thought that Ailynn had ovulated just a few days later, but I just put Cybin in her enclosure last night just to see if anything would happen and the two of them were locked within minutes...... so... either I was wrong and she was just building when she looked enormous or she's still locking up after ovulating (I read someone's post on ball-pythons.net that their female was still locking up to the day before she laid)... Why does this all have to be so confounding? LOL | |

I was looking through my records on this girl from previous years, and she is going about a month earlier than usual this year! I'm so happy about that--I figured she'd be late on me on purpose. LOL I'm so excited and anxious--I can't wait to see how many she lays!

| I believe one of my females is starting to go into a post-ovulation shed now (finally)! Dewshine should shed in a few days. Ailynn, on the other hand, is just restless. She managed to get out of the 40g breeder not once but TWICE in the past few days! I've moved her into a tub in the rack to keep her where I want her. Still hoping something happens with Henna. She's still locking with Cybin, but that's all so far. | |

| You *might* be able to gauge prices from sites like Kingsnake and FaunaClassifieds, but until we've actually got babies up and ready to go I doubt any of us have absolute price figures yet. There are a lot of variables that go into pricing. I wouldn't want to quote something now and be way off later on. | |
